I was watching the local news earlier today. THV this morning. They posed the question, “Where would you go if you had a time machine”?
I think that I would have to go back to some significant historical event. The Kennedy assassination. The Hindenburg bursting into flames. The Beatles’ first appearance on Ed Sullivan.
Maybe I would go back and hang out with van Gogh or Monet or Picasso. I would be kind of cool to watch someone paint something that would eventually be considered a masterpiece.
Here are some places I would go, or events I would attend if I had a time machine and time travel were possible.
- The 1913 Armory Show
The Armory Show refers to the International Exhibition of Modern Art that opened in New York City’s 69th Regiment Armory in Feb. of 1913 and ran until the Ides of March. It was a watershed event in the history of American art. Most of the people who attended were exposed to modern art for the first time. The show served as a catalyst for American artists to find and create their own artistic language.
Some of my favorite works of art were on exhibit at the Armory Show.
Marcel DuChamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase
Renoir’s In the Garden
Picasso’s Woman with Mustard Pot
Some of my favorite artists exhibited at the Armory Show.
- The Kennedy Assassination (JFK)
I think that I would have to go to this event more than once. I would have to investigate it from every angle. On one visit I would place myself on the sixth floor of the Schoolbox Depository (Letter a in the photo).
I would put myself on the pergola where Zapruder stood when he filmed the assassination. According to Jack White and a few other conspiracy theorists, the Zapruder film is a fake. They say that it was doctored to cover revealing evidence. I’ve done enough research on the subject to know what to look for.
I would put myself next to the umbrella man. I would want to see if the raising of the umbrella really was a signal.
I would investigate the myth of the Badge Man. The Badge Man is found in the Mary Moorman photo. Some say it’s a uniformed officer taking a shot at JFK, and others say it is a glass coke bottle.

There are quite a few places I would investigate, but too many for me to go into. I would have to have an entire post just for that.
- The Lincoln Assassination
I think that the assassination of Lincoln would be an interesting historical event to attend. I’ve been to the house where he died. It’s across the street from Ford’s Theater. It was a boarding house owned by William Peterson (I wonder if the William Peterson who played Grissom on CSI is related to him?). I didn’t get to go into Ford’s Theater because it was being renovated.
Here are some pictures I took when I was in D.C. back in 2009. (Click on the pictures to make them larger)
- The Apollo 11 Moon Landing
There was a time when I thought that the first moon landing was real. Then there was a time I thought that the first moon landing was faked. Now, I’m not sure either way. I lean more towards fake. Since I wasn’t there I can’t discount either.
