On the Right Track Baby, I Was Born This Day

I once read somewhere that each person shares their birthday with 9 million other people. Hmmm…kinda makes you feel a little less special. That is, of course, unless you share your birthday with some really cool people.

When I was in high school I had the same birthday as my 2 best friends, Eddie and Harold. We discovered it our sophomore year when we were filling out information cards during Band. Of the 3 of us, I was the youngest. I was born at 5:03 pm and they were both born in the morning.

I also have the exact same birthday, July 26 – 1957, as Hart Hanson, the creater of Bones. Also born on that day were Nana Visitor who played Kira Nerys on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Yuen Biao, a Hong Kong actor and martial artist.

Everyone in my immediate family has the same birthday as a U.S. President. Well, everyone except me, that is. I got stuck with a vice presidential birthday – George Clinton, the 4th vice president. He was only one of two vice presidents to serve under 2 different presidents – Jefferson and Madison. He was also the first Governor of New York.

George Clinton – P Funk star, NOT vice president

I guess a vice presidential birthday isn’t too bad, especially when the veep has the same name as one of the coolest funkadelic stars EVER.

If P-Funk George’s mother could have just waited 4 more days, he would have had the July 26 birthday, too.

George Clinton – Vice President

Another person that I share my birthday with is Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World. The interesting thing about Huxley is that he died on same day as JFK – Nov. 22, 1963, as did C.S. Lewis, the author of The Chronicles of Narnia. Lewis’ and Huxley’s deaths were overshadowed by the death of JFK.

According to Huxley’s wife, Huxley, unable to speak and on his deathbed, made a written request for her to inject him with “LSD, 100 µg, intramuscular”. She obliged. He died a little after 5 pm that day. About 4 hours or so after Kennedy.

Other famous people born on this day were:

George Bernard Shaw – Irish Writer and Nobel Laureate.
July 26, 1856 – Nov. 2, 1950
Carl Jung – Swiss psychiatrist, influential thinker, and founder of Analytical Psychology.
July 26, 1875 – June 6, 1961
George Grosz – German artist and prominent member of the Berlin Dada and New Objectivity group, before emigrating to the United States in 1933.
July 26, 1893 – July 6, 1959.
In the photo he is painting his famous Hitler in Hell.
Blake Edwards – American film director, screenwriter and producer.
July 26, 1922 – Dec. 15, 2010
Jason Robards – American actor of Film, stage, television, and winner of the Tony Award, two Academy Awards and the Emmy.
July 26, 1922 – Dec. 26, 2000
Stanley Kubrick – American film director, writer and producer. Famous for Dr. Stranglove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange.
July 26, 1928 – March 7, 1999
Mary Jo Kopechne – Secretary and political campaign specialist who died in a car accident on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts on July 18, 1969, while a passenger in a car being driven by U.S. Senator Edward M. “Ted” Kennedy.
July 26, 1940 – July 18, 1969
Mick Jagger – Lead vocalist for The Rolling Stones.
July 26, 1943

There are quite a few more famous people who were born on that day, but those were just some of my favorites.

As far as who died on my birthday, I think that Ed Gein, the serial killer who was the inspiration for the character, Norman Bates, in Hitchcock’s movie Psycho, is the most notorious. I’m not putting up a picture of him because he creeps me out.

As far as events go, Carlos Castillo Armas, dictator and president of Guatemala, was assassinated on the day that I was born. He was shot dead in the presidential palace by a palace guard, Romeo Vásquez, on July 26, 1957. It is still uncertain whether the killer was paid to assassinate Castillo, or had other motives. Vásquez was found dead a short while later in what is believed to be a suicide.

  1. Thanks Bob. Now I HAVE to research famous characters on MY birthday now. Just when I was going to clean the condo, you made me obsess and have to do research on the computer! Again, THANKS. ; )

  2. It’s amazing. I’ve looked at who was born on my BDay and it’s a much shorter list. Should I look further or just assume I have joined this Party on a less exciting day?

Fun post. Thanks for not posting a creepy guy’s photo when you could have!

  3. I share my birthday with Tom Hanks and Dean R. Koontz – that’s the limit of my knowledge, but I am more then happy with this pair!

    • Also born on that day were David Hockney, on of my favorite artists, and O.J. Simpson (sorry!). Oh yeah, and Fred Savage, who played Kevin Arnold on “The Wonder Years”.

      • Like I need reminding of who Fred Savage is…I LOVED that show!

Guess your stats have now changed somewhat from our earlier conversation this week! Well deserved!

      • The Wonder Years is one of my favorite shows. I wish that it would come out on DVD. That was my era.
My stats HAVE changed. It’s amazing. I was shocked to see that I was freshly pressed.

  4. You have, quite possibly, the coolest birth date ever. Carl Jung, Stanley Kubrick, and Mick Jagger?!

All I have is Mark Harmon, Walt Simonson, Keanu Reeves, and Salma Hayek.

    • Also on that day are Dan White, the guy who shot and killed Harvey Milk, and Micheal Gray, the actor who played Marcia Brady’s boyfriend on the episode where she worked in the ice cream parlor.

  5. My ex-boyfriend was born on July 26, 1978. Add him to your list! He is not famous but crazy smart and wants to open up his own bar in Indiana one day. I guess his two Masters might help him even though he could ve chosen a different path?! Anyhow, maybe it’s normal for your people to think out of the order in such a fantastic way!
    Hooray for Dreams!
    Laura

  6. I once heard that statistically, if you have seven people in a room together, there’s a better-than-50% chance that two people share the same birthday.

(And as a disclaimer, I’m not sure if that’s urban legend or not. However irresponsible it may be to spread the word without research, I’m doing it regardless…)

    😉

    Fun post!

    • Thanks Kathy! For some reason the idea just popped into my head yesterday. I never in a million years who have thought that it would end up on freshly pressed.

  7. whoohoo P-funk George & I share July 22. Eat your heart out. Great FP and nice to meet you, too. We’re all jealous you thought of it, cause who hasn’t gone to On-This-Day.com ? Good idea on Wiki. Well, it was 1958 for me…so that Bobby Sherman had my birthday (“Here Come The Brides” tv show in like 1968) meant I was definitely going to marry him one day. Yayyy. Now I love it that the Beatles first album debuted in America on July 22nd, even better, personally, Elvis Costella’s “My Aim Is True” debuted in Britain….when I was 19 and it became my theme song, I didn’t know that. Don Henley, Keith Sweat, David Spade, William DaFoe, Alex Trebek…now I’m blatantly name-dropping*-*…..what’s very cool about searching your birthdae, family & friends is the amazing amount of history we are reminded of! Wiley Post concluded the first round-the-world flight, we landed on Venus…that’s no accident since Venus and I share so much, right? What!? Annnyway, John Dillinger fatally wounded, annnd Vanilla Fudge debuted in New York. Thanks Bob, fun today….and I loved the Doppleganger comment. And June 2nd is a-day-in-the-life for Bobcb518….You’ve just been Freshly Pressed Punked!!!

    • You have some REALLY good ones. Alex Trebek (totally jealous), George Clinton (again, totally jealous), and Bobby Sherman (yes, I know who he is). I have 2 Bobby Sherman songs on my ipod.
      I LOVE Vanilla Fudge!!!
      Thanks for the cool comment!

  8. mcbarlow5……. sharing a birthday with Prince Charles IS cool. Most scorpios are always cool people. Congrats.

Bob…..I, also, loved your background pic. It was actually a fun moment for me, albeit a blonde one, ….I actually forgot it was a folder pic….and thought “wow, lucky and cool guy to be on that fabulous beach today….what a great life!” lmao, whatever, the laugh was good for me

    • Thanks for liking the pic. If there’s one thing I’m NOT, it’s on a beach somewhere. I’m in Little Rock where it’s hot with 97% humidity. Ugh!

  9. Cool post, but I’m amazed no one has mentioned to you yet that you have Blake Edwards being born in 1922 and dying in 1910. Would that make him minus 12 years old when he passed? That would have made his marriage to Julie Andrews and really May-September affair, although not quite in the way people thought of it previously. :]

  10. ha ha ha ha yayyyy! I know ,,,,,Vanilla Fudge! Crazy fun. But c’mon now, you don’t really think I believe you have Bobby on your ipod, right? Oh yeah, there was that one crossover song that guys couldn’t resist { even if closeted} Julie, Julie, Julie do you love me? Lol, omg, guys fell in love with Julieeee. We had one cool chic and she was new to our school, named Julie….the rest of us didn’t stand a chance for a whole semester, dammit! You Rock, Bob….enjoy your spotlight today, way cool for you and all Freshly Pressed people…but who can read the rest when we’re having so much fun with yours!? I bet all the “this day” sites are jammed, lol. Later, when you finally have a moment away from your fans *-* check out a retro-post I wrote, that should bring back a lot of fun memories from back-in-the-day ….. battleforbluejeans.wordpress Later, Nan

    • Thanks Nan! I will check out your posts.
Bobby Sherman IS on my ipod. “Julie, Do You Love Me”, and “Easy Come, Easy Go”. Everything on my ipod is retro.
I even have the “Partridge Family” episode that he was in on DVD.

  11. yeh, I wanted to want David Cassidy, but Bobby had my birthday….so it was meant to be. Later I realised I just wanted their hair! Its fun to see so many people here and the jive back and forth. Nice to see “Country man’s Wife” again. I am jealous of her gravitar pic. Love it. …………………………Yes, its hot everywhere, must be why so many are online. I’m in North Georgia with all its humidity. Jealous of anyone back home in Colorado, today. …….I hope I meet some of you later, and read any posts you have written. I write your names down for later…..FP is such a great way to meet friends and get-thinking too.

  12. You know, Bob, you did the whole package right today. You had us singing already with just the title. Your plan totally came together. Excellent grab-us move. This is going to be a long moment for you, because its fun, and then has millions of possibilities. the last post that grabbed me this way, with the everyone’s own-stories possibilities, was the “Ambidextrous” one. It surprised me that so many stories came out of it. But your post will far surpass it. Not meant negatively, just great for all of us. Good job, maynerd. Couldn’t resist a retro-remark *-* Lol, thanks for the platform!

    • I guess I can thank Lady GaGa. That song was stuck in my head the whole time I was doing the post. Actually, it still is. It just seemed like the most logical title for the post.

  13. Happy Birthday. I share a birthday with the guy who used to be married to Kristie Alley, what was his name? He was in The Hardy Boys…there must be more…I will have to go on Wikipedia and investigate…thanks for the great post!

    • I love ‘The Hardy Boys’. It was Parker Stevenson. Not to be confused with Jameson Parker who played A.J. on ‘Simon and Simon’. I used to get those two mixed up all the time.

  14. Great post. Its seems you sparked interest in a lot of people to research their birthday 🙂 I share my birthday, June 9th, with quite a few people. Johnny Depp, Michael J. Fox, Natalie Portman, Les Paul, Cole Porter, Charles Bonaparte, to name a few and share the same exact birth date with Matthew Bellamy of Muse.
    Congratulations on being freshly pressed.

  15. haha! thats quite a list..
i share my bday with roger federer, princess beatrice of york, scott stapp, n a ton of other people 😉 nice post idea by the way 😀

    • It must be August 8 then. The only reason I know that is because my house burned down on 8/8/88, the same day that Princess Beatrice was born. Every time I see a picture of her or hear her name I am reminded of it.

      • yeah august 8 😀 and one more unique thing about my family birthdays is that everyone is a factor of 8 or 8.. my mom and bro were born on 4th n dad 17, 1+7=8 n me 8th 😉
birthday thingys r quite fun 😀

  16. GayCarBoys and your Baxter/Gross comments have interesting merit. I hope he/she sees this and can weigh in……in Astrology, its been said that men and women of the same sign possess each other’s opposite masculine/feminine traits. Like my best male friend and I are both Cancer…..well, he was more dominately feminine compared to me, and vice versa, and neither of us are gay. That’s not the subject. Well, last year I was sitting in a medical clinic, with strangers all around. I was sitting straight up, looking people in the eye, direct, concise, clearly heard when spoken to by personnel, etc. Four chairs away, a guy sat who had his legs crossed, knee-over-knee, hands on knees, soft-spoken and demure. We found out we have the same birthday. We got to know each other. neither one of us was gay, but he was clearly more feminine in social situations than I am. Now we both have our own-sex traits….but they are definitely the less dominant when it comes to our gender and sign. Okay, now look at Meridith and Micheal….she was definitely more masculine and he more feminine. Right? Same BD. I’m a anthropology/sociology geek.

  17. You’re an awesome plethera of trivia! So Sorry about your home. Would be a good serious or serious/humor post to write, surely. Bob, thank you so much for opening your blog to chatting. Not everyone may like that. Thanks for the fun. I need to get some things done, but its nice to know I already have a fun blog going-on to come back to. You’re gonna have to pace yourself, lol, this could go viral, oh man. Don’t forget to eat. Or let the dog out *-* See you later Born This Day

    • I know. I’m not used to comments. Maybe one every two weeks. Not only that, but I totally missed ‘Jeopardy’ today. I never miss
Jeopardy’. Thanks for all the comments!

  18. OMG I just looked at wikipedia and there is a list of 158 ppl that were also born on my birthday… sigh.. I’m sooo not special rofl. Some of them… Magic Dick (haaaa!!! sorry, couldn’t help it.. Magic Dick… HAAAAA!!!! SORRY, that name is so… haaaaa!!), Stevie Wonder, Dennis Rodman, Robert Pattinson and the youngest.. Debby Ryan. Too bad I only know who 3 or 4 ppl from the list are lol.

  19. super cool idea and list … I know I share my birthday *June 21st* with HRH Prince William but I’ll have to check out if there’s anyone else noteworthy on that date.

    Fun post; congrats on being fresh pressed … loving your background {{sigh}}

    cheers! MJ

    • Thanks! You should definately check out others who have your birthday. It’s quite interesting.
Thanks for liking the background. I just changed it about 2 weeks ago.

  20. How can you not click on that picture to see what’s inside? Great post…I love this kind of historical stuff. Don’t know why I’ve never bothered to check my birthday, probably because I prefer to think that I am the most important person born that day. Of course I share a birthday with Grandmother, so I’ve already lost that battle! Congrats on FP. Check my site out when you get a chance.

  21. Like everyone else, I had to check it out. Apparently I share MY day with oscar Wilde (1854), Suzanne Somers (1946), Flea (1962), and John Mayer (1977). There was a guy who was a co-conspirator in Watergate as well. .. .and I’m sure many others. I didn’t check into it TOO much.

  22. What a fun post! I share my bday with Tony Hawk as well as the founder of the Red Cross, Clara Barton. I was about 10 when I found out she and I had the same birthday when I did a report on her.
I think its interesting to see what types of people share the same birthdays. My husband (an artist) shares his birthday with mostly singers and silent movie actors, which makes me think that that particular day must be a creative one! (may 26)
    🙂

  23. You obviously keep fascinating company! I’m going to have to do a search of my own, now. My only claim to fame as I know it is that I was born on Mother’s Day — best gift ever, I figure! Congrats on being FP’d.

  24. Wow! You’re born on the same day as the inventor of Bones?!
    You are so lucky.
I share my birthday with my uncle. Well, more like my ex-uncle, since he married my aunt (a blood-relative).
Think of that. Sharing the same birthday as your ex-uncle.
I feel so special. ;D So consider yourself lucky.
Haha. Well I find that amazingly awesome, since I am so hooked on Bones. 🙂
    Have a great birthday! 😀

  25. Pretty amazing list. I never really thought about who else might have been born on my birthday, but I do know my parents were born on the same day of the year. When they’re filling out forms, most people think they’re accidentally writing their anniversary.

    • That’s kind of funny about the people thinking it’s your parent’s anniversary. I guess I can see how people would assume that they made a mistake, since married people sharing the same birthday isn’t that common.

  26. Interesting…I share mine with Patty LaBelle, Anne Rice, Jackie Collins, and Susan Sarandon. I had to look it up because you made me curious. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed 🙂

  27. I had never thought about who else was born on my birthday, but after reading your post I just had to. No one really note worthy…guess its up to me to that date on the map.

Congrats on being Freshly Born…oops I mean Freshly Pressed.

    Blessings,

    Ava
    xox

  28. My daughter was due two days after my birthday (which is July 20th.) Selfishly, I prayed she would not be born on my birthday so that I could still be the center of attention that day. She was born July 14th. She has somehow managed to consume an entire “birthday week” every year since. So I come in a close second for an entire week instead of just one day. Not sure I’m ready to face the other 9 million people I have to share my special day with. So much for narcissism.

    • Thanks for the comment Olivia. I know what you mean about the birthday. I have a relative the day before me and a relative the day after. We always have to celebrate together.

  29. Really interesting I never thought to look up persons who shared the same birth date as I do – some what took it for granted.

I see some research in my future…:( thanks Bob.

  30. I was inspired- I looked up mine as well. For the most part uninteresting except a few notables: Yo-Yo Ma, Simon Cowell, Niels Bohr, Toni Braxton, and Vladamir Putin. My favorites, as far as a connection, go to Taylor Hicks (Same name) and John Cougar Mellencamp (Fellow Indiana native)

  31. This was so much fun to read! The only famous person that I know I share my birthday with is Ringo Starr. Now I have to go and check the Wiki. 🙂

Reading this and watching Dallas beat Miami tonight has just made my day. Thanks Bob!

  32. Great post! I like that you did not just look at run of the mill people, but some interesting characters as well… 🙂 Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!

  33. Hi…..this is trivia…what I would like to ask you is …. in which luminary’s footsteps
do you plan to follow ?

  35. The best i could come up with was Thom York (radio head) and Tim Minchin (funny man musician so im good company as a musician myself! It is amazing how many people there are to share every date!

  36. I really enjoyed your blog, so far I only know of Usher Raymond known as “Usher” who shares the same Bday as me.

  37. It’s a little late, but…
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Wish you best!
I loved your idea on this post, can I do the same on my birthday? It’s only in September… 🙂

  38. This post made me too curious not to search for what happened and who were born on my birthday! Now, why haven’t I thought of this before?!

Had a blast seeing the names of Ryan Reynolds, Martin Luther King III, and Michael Crichton on my birthday list. A million thanks!

      • I think we have something in common then. Vice Presidents. I’ve made my birthday post already, linked yours in it. Truly worth citing! Searching for those people and events really was fun.
